Hindus use it to achieve “moksa,” which is liberation of the soul from the cycle of rebirth and knowledge of the true self through a state of unity with Brahman the Supreme Being. In Hinduism, dharma is a person’s responsibility to observe a moral code and traditional customs. It has been a part of Hinduism since their ancient times in the hope of worldly riches, good luck, the Hindu goddess of power, to answer their wishes and all types of success.

More than 80 percent of Nepal’s 27 million people are Hindus, but unlike most of their counterparts in neighboring India, they frequently sacrifice animals to appease deities during festivals.

Dashain is the longest and the main festival of Nepal. Generally Dashain falls in late September to mid- October, right after the monsoon season in Nepal. Dashain gets many different nick names as: Dasara, Bada Dashain, Vijaya Dashain, Durga Puja, all of which mean the same thing: Dashain, a day of Victory over Demons as per Hinduism.
According to the legend, Goddess, Durga conquered evils on the Dashain day. Huge amount of animal sacrifices take place during the festival in temples and in homes to please the Goddess Durga.

Hundreds and thousands of animals are slaughtered in factories. The final day of the festival is known as `Tika’, a day on which the elder ones give`Tika’ to the younger ones and to other relatives who come for their blessings.Nepal Mission Sacrifice-during-Gadhimai-festival-in-Nepal HEALTH AWARENESS

Every year during Dashain festival, and last November in Gadhimai areas of Nepal, we witnessed a week of this huge sacrifice. About 5,000 buffaloes were held in an open-air pen prior to being beheaded using swords and large curved knives.

According to legend, the first sacrifices in Bariyapur were conducted several centuries ago when Gadhimai appeared to a prisoner in a dream and asked him to establish a temple to her.
When he awoke, his shackles had fallen open and he was able to leave the prison and build the temple, where he sacrificed animals to give thanks. People believe a sacrifice to Gadhimai, also known as the goddess of power, will bring them prosperity and that eating the meat of ritually slaughtered animals will protect them from evil.

Tens of thousands of people flock to the ceremony, which is held every five years at the Gandhimai temple. Worshippers believe the animal sacrifice, meant to appease the Hindu goddess of power, brings them luck and prosperity. And always provokes international outrage.

The ritual began at dawn with a ceremonial “pancha bali” or the sacrifice of five animals, comprising a goat, a rooster, and a pigeon.

The Supreme Court of Nepal (SC) has issued an order to stop the cruel act of sacrificing animals during the Gadhimai festival addressing on the government to discourage the tradition of sacrificing animals in the name of pleasing gods.Nepal Mission Let-there-be-your-precious-hands-for-Meat-to-veg-movement HEALTH AWARENESS

People need to be made aware that slaughtering animal is not a good deed. The government should create such an environment that people make the code of conduct themselves and abide by it,” said the justices in the decision.

A joint bench of justices Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada and Anil Kumar Sinha issued the order directing the government to form a committee and take appropriate measures to stop the inhumane act of slaughtering animals.

Advocate Arjun Kumar Aryal had filed demanding the slaughter be stopped and naming the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers along with the Gadhimai Temple Management Committee as the defendants.
The SC has asked the government to respect the feeling of the people in the region and take steps to make people aware about the consequences of animal sacrifice.Nepal Mission Projector-Film-showprogram HEALTH AWARENESS

The SC’s Deputy Spokesperson Bishwor Raj Paudel, the order tells the government of Nepal to create an environment that discourages people wrong tradition of animal sacrifice and give it up themselves.

The SC has made the verdict slaughtering animals in mass is not a good thing from the view point of the environment as well.

“It is a ritual connected with people’s faith,” said Yogendra Dulal, an assistant administrator of the Bara district, where the Gadhimai temple is located. “We can’t hurt their sentiments and ban the practice.”

Then will this huge sacrifice be totally stopped …???Nepal Mission Meat-related-diseases HEALTH AWARENESS
There has plenty of reasons that may not be totally stopped before making full aware what they are doing and about the worst part of the meat consumption and its side effects like Heart Disease, Colon Cancer, High Blood Pressure, Gallstones, Obesity, Hypertension, Diabetes and Food-borne etc.

What we find is that a majority of the animals due to be sacrificed were not reared for the purpose of religious sacrifice. Rather, they were reared for the products their bodies produce: meat, skin or any reproductive products like milk and eggs etc. Even if the protests succeed and the sacrifices are stopped, all of these animals will still be destined for the slaughter house.

Nepal Mission Film-show-from-HIMET-Kathmandu-Nepal HEALTH AWARENESSHence, we believe the most effective way to stop the killing and suffering of animals is to encourage others to follow a vegetarian or vegan diet. They need to be taught and become fully aware about the harm of meat consumption and the danger of pesticides, parasites, and bacteria. They also need to know how this affects their body in the form of fat, increased cholesterol, heart disease, colon cancer, high blood pressure, and chronic diseases that lead to early death, etc.

Our documentary projector show will draw awareness as public education and it touches to the public and help to reduce animals sacrifice and poverty in Nepal. Once people get in aware about the worst part of meat consumption then they get to think alternative way even if they got to go temple yet.
